At least we hope they will.. For our summer vacation this year, we spent 6 days in San Antonio (actually, we spent 2 days in the car and 4 days in San Antonio) and took in all the cultural, historical, and amusement park sights we could stand. The trip down was uneventful, and after we got there on Thursday evening and got settled into our room, we had time to take a walk and boat tour around the Riverwalk.
The next day we spent at the zoo and nearby Japanese Tea Gardens. The zoo was fine, but the gardens were really something else. I expected it to be nice, but they were definitely above and beyond that.
Saturday was spent visiting the cultural side, starting with the Alamo, and including stops at Market Square, the King William district, and all of the missions on the Mission Trail.
We also happened upon the home of Pioneer Mills and the C.H. Guenther House, the company that recently acquired our own beloved Morrison Milling Company.
Sunday we spent spelunking at Natural Bridge Caverns a hundred feet below ground, and at the Tower of the Americas, several hundred feet above it. There was also a very cool 4-D show at the Tower that the kids loved, complete with squirting water and air.
The highlight of the trip, though, was our day at Sea World. It started when the park opened at 10am, and didn't end until we pulled out of the parking lot when they closed at 8pm. We saw the shows, the animals, enjoyed a few rides that the kids could do, and even had a couple of hours to spend in the water park. On the way out, we stopped by and had a great opportunity to see the dolphins up close and personal.
The drive home (on Kristie's birthday, no less) was much more interesting, as we stopped off in Luckenback, Greune, and Johnson City. It was a great vacation, but boy do I need a vacation now... :)
(I may blog again later with a rant on the Homewood Suites San Antonio, but in case I don't get around to it, make sure you don't stay there until later this fall after their renovation; even then you might consider alternate lodging arrangements...)
