6/16/2009 So I'm feeling guilty about not blogging at all lately. To alleviate some of that guilt, here are some pictures we took at opening day of Nonny and Grandad's pool. There's been lots going on lately, including an update of our kitchen. Before and after pictures of that are coming soon, I promise! 3/23/2009 A month or so ago, Abby got to go to her first Daddy Daughter Dance. She was very excited about it, until the day before when she started running one of her patented fever but no other symptoms sicknesses. At that point we just gave her some ibuprofen and hoped for the best. She had an appointment with her cousin Phoenix to get her hair done and then we met Daddy and Andy for lunch before the dance. She really did look very beautiful, and she had a great time. Andy's been playing soccer, and he's doing great. Abby also recently had her Kindertot program, which is a ball handling class she's taking at school. Do you see her? She's there in the middle. (So it's not a great picture. It's the best I could do from as far away as I was sitting.) Andy also had his teddy bear parade at school. He made his shoebox into an army tank and we got army clothes for his bear. Last week was spring break and we went to my parents for a few days. It had rained quite a bit, so there was A LOT of mud for the kids to play in. They had a great time playing with their cousins. Did I mention there are puppies? Check this out: Seriously. 11/28/2008 Yes, I realize that you're probably reading this with a stomach full of turkey and dressing (or at least with a recent memory of a tryptophan-induced coma).. and that Kristie's been asking me to blog for about 3 weeks now. So I'm finally getting around to pictures of our Super Girl (TM) and land-lubbing pirate and their candy-collecting adventures from Halloween. Our first stop for Halloween festivities was Fire Safety Town, our local FD's mini-city, complete with replica buildings, toll booths, and stop lights, where they gave out candy by the handful at each "business". We went with my brother and two of his kids, and came home with enough candy to use to satisfy trick-or-treaters for the next 3 years. We also participated in our church's annual Fall Festival, where we watched the kids load up on more sugar when we weren't manning the rides and games. To add to our booty (and, for the next month or so, our bootys), there was still the traditional door-to-door approach on Halloween night.
10/22/2008 Last Saturday, we took a trip to the pumpkin patch up the street at Pumpkins on the Prairie. I know it's not the best pumpkin patch around, but it's very close and everything is free except for the pumpkins. We've been going there for the past few years to get our pumpkin to carve on Halloween. Notice, if you will, Andy's dirty knees. We just came from a soccer game. Also notice, if you will, how horribly crooked this picture of Abby is. Steve is always telling me my pictures are crooked and I tell him he's crazy. This one I can maybe see what he's talking about. Anyway, the best part of the day was the face painter. She is actually one of the teachers at the preschool where Abby goes and where I work, but I had no idea she was so talented. Thanks, Ms. Denise! 6/10/2008The kids and I go visit my parents pretty often. If it's just for the weekend, Steve will come with us. But if we get some time off school or our otherwise hectic life, we like to go hang out for a few days. The kids have more cousins to play with there that they absolutely adore, and my parents spoil them like nobody's business. They never want to come home. Usually when we go we just hang out and let the kids play. But the last trip at the beginning of June was chock-full of fun. Mostly because my dad was working nights and needed to sleep during the day. Did I mention that my mom keeps my cousin's two kids also? So that's 6 or 7 kids that were there. No wonder we needed to get out of the house. The first thing we did was visit Greer Farms in Daingerfield. They have pick-your-own blueberries and blackberries. We went early before it got too hot and picked enough to make a blackberry cobbler, blueberry muffins, and still have some left over. When we got home, my mom brought out the slip and slide. I have seen slip & slides before; my kids have even played on them before. But I've never seen anybody have this much fun. That night we went to the Mount Pleasant rodeo. My kids had never been to the rodeo before and I thought it was high time they got to enjoy the experience. Andy even got out into the ring for the calf scramble. They got to ride a pony before it all began, too. I had my doubts Abby would go through with it, but she did great. The next day we took all the kids to Daingerfield State Park. We played at the playground and swam in the lake. By the way, I have decided I do not like to swim in lakes. The fish nibbled at my knees, which freaked me out enough to make me get out and leave my mom in the lake with all six kids (sorry, mom!). 5/27/2008We have had lots of fun at the spray park this summer. And since the kids' cousins now live in town, we are having even more fun. Here are some pictures we took recently.
4/19/2008The bluebonnets were blooming, so we took the kids to nearby Zion cemetery to see them and take some pictures. They weren't nearly as abundant as last year, but still very nice.
