The best joke ever (if you're a 3 year old).

This is the joke Abby told me at bedtime tonight:

Abby:  "Knock, knock"

Me:  "Who's there?"

Abby: "Why did the cup spill the chocolate milk?"

Me:  "Why?"

Abby:  "Because somebody knocked it over."  Insert raucous laughter here.

I don't get it either, but she sure thought it was funny.

A Dalmatian and a Butterfly

Last Saturday, we took a trip to the pumpkin patch up the street at Pumpkins on the Prairie.  I know it's not the best pumpkin patch around, but it's very close and everything is free except for the pumpkins.   We've been going there for the past few years to get our pumpkin to carve on Halloween.

Notice, if you will, Andy's dirty knees.  We just came from a soccer game.

Also notice, if you will, how horribly crooked this picture of Abby is.  Steve is always telling me my pictures are crooked and I tell him he's crazy.  This one I can maybe see what he's talking about.

Anyway, the best part of the day was the face painter.  She is actually one of the teachers at the preschool where Abby goes and where I work, but I had no idea she was so talented.

Thanks, Ms. Denise!

All Aboard!

Since our last camping trip was such a big hit, we decided it was time to spend another couple of nights in a tent out in the wilderness over the Columbus Day long weekend. This time, the "wilderness" was the Rusk State Park (now part of the Texas State Railroad), where we could camp and ride an old steam train between Rusk and Palestine (the other park in this RR system). Kristie's parents and their other two youngest grandkids came along for one night, too, so the kids were thrilled (and so were we!).

It was apparently pretty hard work playing this much.

The next day it was time for our train ride. It was fun, though apparently the highlight for the kids was the gift shop at each end. We actually drove to Palestine (it's only 25 miles), rode the train back to Rusk where we ate at our campsite, then rode it back and drove back to camp.

We're already planning our next camping trip to the state park a mile or so away with some families from our church.

Andy turns 6!

Okay, so he turned 6 almost two months ago.  Keeping up with this blog is harder than it looks.

We had his party at Pump It Up the Saturday before his birthday.  There were 23 kids there and we all had a great time.

After playing in the bounce houses, we had cake and opened presents.  He doesn't look like he's having fun, does he?

On his actual birthday, we had Nonny and Grandad and Uncle Brian's family over for dinner and cookies.  My favorite present he got?  Hermit crabs!  (Please ignore the shirt with the wrestler on it.  It was a gift.)

A week or so later, we went to my parents for his birthday dinner, there.  This is Colton.  He's camera shy.

All in all, it was a great birthday.  I can't believe he's 6 already!

Little Ballerina

It seems Abby has been a little neglected in the blog lately.  So, here is a little bit of of what she has been up to recently.  She took a ballet and tap dance class this summer.  She's pretty good at it, too.  Anyway, the last day of class they opened the room up so that parents could come in and watch them dance.  Of course I didn't have a camera with me.  So I was going to run up to CVS and grab a disposable camera.  But I called Steve and he convinced me to go home and get the real camera and the video camera since he was out of town and was going to miss it.  I had just enough time to get home and back before her dance started.  I started video taping.  I got about ten seconds of video before the camera died.  So, no problem, I have the camera, I will just take pictures.  Got one good picture before the battery on that camera died, too.  Here is the one picture I have of Abby doing ballet.  We may have to sign her up for another class just so I can take some pictures.

Andy's New Room

We redid Andy's room this summer.  The old room was great for the 2 year old we made it for.  Not quite grown up enough for a 6 year old.

This is the way it was before.  The old walls were bright blue and green, with a construction truck and apple tree that my mom and I worked on for hours.  The old bedding matched the truck.

Here are the kids painting the room.  They worked on it A LOT longer than I thought they would or needed them to (it's a very small room.)  They tired soon and went to play.  Please excuse the mess.  Everything in Andy's room had to come out and that's where it landed.  By the time we finished you could hardly walk through the loft.

Since the ceiling was painted before, we had to paint it again.  NOT FUN.  In case you weren't aware.

Here is the finished product.  Denim blue paint on the top, khaki on the bottom.  Red accents.  These were a compromise because Andy wanted the whole room red.  We kind of went with an airplane theme.  I bought these cool metal airplanes from 1975 on Ebay and we framed some posters from pictures we took at the air show.  He also has pegs and hooks on the chair rail for art work and hats and backpacks.  His new bedding is a nice grown-up plaid and Transformer sheets (another compromise).  Steve put up the stars on the ceiling.  That's Orion and his belt.  I think the room is really cool and hopefully will last a long time.  I'm in no hurry to paint again.
